Onward to General Mills
The past five years have been the best of my career. For that, I hold the utmost gratitude and respect to Colle+McVoy. It is a place in which integrity, collaboration and perseverance are fundational to its existence. It is a place where I was believed in. A place where I was expected to lead the charge against the status quo. It is a place where I was encouraged to initiate, build and innovate. It is a place where I came to the realization of what I’m capable of. It is a place where it’s hard to tell the difference between colleagues and friends. These are a few of the things that make C+M special and remarkable.
Christine Fruechte, C+M’s President + Chief Executive Officer, frequently says that one of her main goals is to foster a culture where people can do their career best work. I am proof she’s accomplished this. She’s the driver behind what makes C+M special and remarkable. She’s also a good example of what I mean when I say it’s hard to tell the difference between colleagues and friends. Christine’s been both to me. She pushed me into, and mentored me though, the challenges that come with senior leadership roles. She’s enthusiastically cheered me through getting my MBA and having our first child. That, among the other things mentioned in this post, makes me feel gratitude and respect for the C+M family.
The experiences of my past are a big part of why I was presented with the opportunity to lead digital strategy for the Big G division at General Mills. It’s an opportunity I’m incredibly excited about and one I could not pass up. My first day is Monday. I expect the momentum I was able to gain at C+M will catapult me at the right speed into the fast-paced and innovative culture at General Mills. I also expect that working with the incredibly intelligent and brand-centric marketers will make me a better marketer. I’m looking forward to digging in to the true purpose of brands and figuring out how the web can make them more purposeful. Being on the client side, I will be more intimately involved in this and one step closer to taking the digital strategies I create and making things happen.
While the past five years have been the best of my career, the next five are shaping up to be even better. General Mills has so much to offer; it’s up to me to make the most of it. I welcome you all in to be part of how it unfolds. There’s still so much I don’t know. There’s still so much we all don’t know. In the spirit of sharing, I’ll continue to post stories as I explicitly find, or stumble upon, inspiration. In the meantime, I encourage you to relentlessly challenge the status quo and nobly pursue how you can help make brands more purposeful on the Interwebs.
